    Position:

    Lone Rock Resources is seeking candidates for a Forest Engineering position located in our Roseburg, OR office. The successful candidate will work in Lone Rock’s surveying and engineering department where he/she will join a team of hardworking, talented, and dedicated licensed engineers and surveyors who thrive in performing exceptional work in a productive environment. We are looking for a motivated team player who will provide quality input to our diverse company structure. In a typical year, the Lone Rock Engineering and Surveying Team performs design, engineering, and layout of 35 miles of road construction and reconstruction including culvert and bridge design and road maintenance. In addition, Lone Rock surveys over 40 miles of property line annually. Successful candidates for the engineering position will demonstrate a willingness to work with state-of-the-art equipment striving to increase accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness for company operations.

    Job Duties:

    Included, but not limited to:

    • Road and harvest unit layout
    • Road design, field narration, and road staking
    • Neighbor crossing plat submittals
    • Road project pre-work compiling and file management
    • Road construction contract administration
    • Road and bridge/structure inventory and inspections
    • Property line traversing and marking
    • Other duties including fire cache inventory, fire suppression, and road winterization

    Qualifications:

    • 4-year bachelor’s degree in Forest and/or Civil Engineering
    • Proficient in using computers with specific knowledge of CAD, RoadEng, survey mapping software (Traverse PC), and Microsoft Office Suite
    • Good interpersonal communication skills and ability to work well with others
    • Good analytical and organization skills
    • Ability to travel to different job locations within Southwest Oregon
    • Be physically able to work in harsh terrain and in various environments in inclement weather
    • Ability to work independently
    • A valid driver’s license and a good driving history

    Preferred Skills:

    • Current Engineering/Surveying License or Engineering/Surveying Intern Certificate with the ability to obtain an Oregon Engineering/Surveying License within 5 years
    • 2+ years experiences in an engineering/forestry related field
    • 1+ years of experience in contract/project administration for road construction related projects
    • Experience/knowledge of surveying including the use of a total station and GPS

    Physical Requirements:

    • Walking and standing up to 10 hours per day in various terrain and weather conditions
    • Carrying equipment up to 50 lbs.
    • Working in an office environment up to 10 hours per day

    About the Engineering/Surveying Department:

    Lone Rock currently employs three full time Forest Engineering graduates and one Forest Operations graduate in its Engineering/Surveying Department:

    • Ken Hoffine (OSU Forest Engineering 1979) is the Forest Engineering Manager and is licensed in both Engineering and Surveying. Ken is responsible for all survey and engineering work on LRTM managed lands. He supervises all staff in the Engineering/Surveying Department.
    • Weston Addington (OSU Forest/Civil Engineering 2014) is a Forest Engineer with his Engineering and Survey Licenses. Weston is responsible for road construction layout and road structure design/management.
    • Katie Nichols (OSU Forest Engineering 2015) is a Forest Engineer having earned her Engineering license. Katie is responsible for Lone Rock’s SFI Certification program, BLM R/W access, and erosion control program
    • Dan Saily (OSU Forest Operations Management 2010) is an LSIT working toward his professional Survey License. Dan has various responsibilities ranging from managing road use agreements with private landowners and developing surveys for company owned lands. Additionally, the Engineering/Surveying Department employs four other full-time positions with over 70 years of combined forest engineering experience.
