    Civil Engineering Specialist 1 – Survey Analyst

    Highway Division – Region 1
    Right of Way/Survey Unit

     

    The role:

    Do you have experience using computer-aided design software to process field collected survey data or to draft survey maps? Our survey analyst is our computer-aided mapping specialist and will translate survey and textual data into maps. This key role researches, acquires, compiles, and analyzes a variety of information to determine the location of right of way, engineer’s centerlines and boundaries of both Highway Division ownership and adjoining private properties.

    A day in the life:

    • Prepare base maps, digital terrain models, horizontal control maps, recovery maps, vicinity maps and legal survey maps from survey and textual data. 
    • Participate as a member of the work team.
    • Prepare, present and sponsor action items and crew team proposals.
    • Implement approved team proposals.
    • Train coworkers in the use of computer-aided design and drafting related software for producing various maps.
    • Communicate survey needs to the office staff and field survey crews.
    • Work is performed in a typical office environment using a drafting table and computer.
    • Must lift 10 to 20 pound boxes of record archives or project data.

    What we need:

    A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, surveying, or transportation-related engineering and one year civil engineering or surveying experience.
    OR 

    An associate's degree in engineering technology or surveying from a recognized community college or technical school of engineering and two and one-half years of engineering or surveying experience. One year of this experience must show independent work or senior team work.
    OR 

    Four years of para-professional engineering or surveying experience. One year of this experience must show independent work or senior team work.
    OR 

    An equivalent combination of education and experience

     

    Additionally, driving is an essential function of this position. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position.

    • Currently possesses a Fundamentals of Land Surveying (FLS) certificate.
    • Experience resolving survey boundary issues.
    • Experience using MicroStation Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software for processing field collected survey data.
    • Experience using MicroStation CAD software for drafting survey maps.
    • Experience processing point clouds.
