    The role:

    Bring your construction inspection experience to our Barlow Construction Office as a junior inspector/surveyor! In this important role, you will work at project sites inspecting work as it is performed to ensure contract compliance on construction projects. As a surveyor, you will provide surveying services in support of construction projects. Join us in keeping Oregon’s roadways safe!

    A day in the life:

    • Review pre-award contract documentation for completeness and accuracy.
    • Inspect and monitor construction and reject work or material that does not meet contract requirements.
    • Represented ODOT in communications with the contractor, the public or other interested parties.
    • Monitor project safety procedures and methods.
    • Spot check survey stakes, grades, stations, locations and alignments.
    • Prepare and submit documentation and reports according to the contract requirements.
    • Collect survey field data and work on a survey crew performing preliminary and construction survey tasks.
    • Design and establish or re-establish horizontal and vertical control networks.
    • Monument ODOT right of way, centerlines and other property boundaries.
    • Prepare general daily progress reports for all work done in the field.
    • Work with inspectors and designers to resolve design/field situations.
    • Review, research and prepare data.
    • 50% or more of the work is performed outdoors.
    • Occasional travel required, including overnight stays.
    • This position requires long working hours, a flexible schedule and occasionally being on call 24 hours/day, seven days/week – including holidays.

    What we need:

    • An associate's degree in engineering technology from a community college or technical school of engineering and two years of experience directly related to engineering.

    OR 

    • Three and one-half years (42 months) of sub-professional engineering experience.

    OR

    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

     

    Additionally, driving is an essential function of this position. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position.
