    The Opportunity:


    Survey Specialist, Multnomah County Surveyor’s Office. Your job as the Survey Specialist is of the utmost importance because you serve as a primary point of contact to ensure that the plats and records of survey submitted to the Multnomah County Surveyor’s Office conform to the Oregon Revised Statutes, Multnomah County Ordinances, accepted professional standards, and the public’s interests.  We also look to you to address the questions and concerns of the public as well as Land Surveyors as they relate to land surveying and property law.  As the Survey Specialist, you will also oversee the operation of the Survey Records Office as well as other employees involved with plat reviews.

    You will be asked to:

    • Investigate and comment on all aspects of submitted plats, including boundary resolution, ownership and other title issues, right-of-way issues, conformance with statutes, ordinances, mapping standards, etc. 
    • Communicate frequently with professional land surveyors, planners, developers, title agents, and other professionals.
    • Investigate and comment on submitted records of survey and review items such as boundary resolution, conformance with statutes, mapping standards.
    • Supervise daily operations of survey records office and provide guidance on various issues when needed; also supervise other employees involved in the review of plats by answering questions and resolving related problems.
    • Use computer aided drafting programs to recreate drawings from plats to ensure geometry is correctly executed and presented in a clear, readable, reproducible form.

    Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills*:

    Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

    • Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with major course work in an math, computer science, engineering, surveying technology, construction management, or related field demonstrating the capacity for the required knowledge and skills; AND
    • Four years of increasingly responsible professional survey experience.
    • Registration as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in the State of Oregon (or ability to obtain registration within 6 months)

    Preferred Qualifications/Transferable Skills*: You do not need to have the following preferred qualifications/transferable skills to qualify. However, keep in mind we may consider some or all of the following when identifying the most qualified candidates. Please clearly explain on your application how you meet any of the following preferred qualifications/transferable skills.

    • Thorough knowledge of land division plats and records of survey, and associated Oregon Revised Statutes (Chapters 92, 100, 209).
    • Ability to prioritize and delegate work of self and others.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Carlson Survey or Civil 3D experience.
