Come work with a Bureau of Land Management survey crew as a Survey Technician in the beautiful Pacific Northwest working in support of the Public Land Survey System in Oregon and Washington. This is a temporary (6 month only appointments) field going position in 8 locations throughout Oregon and Washington. In these positions you will support the Bureau's mission of multiple-use to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations, as well as supporting numerous other Federal agencies needs including the National Park Service, Bureau of Reclamations, Forest Service, and other Indian Tribes. Duties for this position include:
- Assisting a land surveyors in the measurement or determination of distances, elevations, areas, angles, land boundaries, and other features of the earth's surface.
- Establishing survey monuments and accessories.
- This work requires highly proficient operation of instruments and application of surveying techniques to obtain the required skill and accuracy.
- Surveying duties frequently include physically demanding tasks such as prolonged walking with heavy packs of instruments and equipment, clearing timber and undergrowth, and driving vehicles over rough terrain.
- Positions may require frequent travel during the work day to and from geographically dispersed work sites.
