    A day in the life:

    • Perform quality control review of consultant developed Right-of-Way maps and legal descriptions.
    • Assure accurate records are kept on completed projects and files. 
    • Act as a member of project delivery teams, providing the leadership and input, survey deliverables and plan reviews to successfully deliver transportation projects.
    • Produce, stamp and file legal descriptions, recovery maps, centerline retracement maps, horizontal control maps, R/W monumentation maps, right-of-way maps, plans, and plats which are used for the purchase of property for ODOT projects and for the sale of excess ODOT property.
    • Under no supervision, measure distances, angles, and elevations; establish horizontal and vertical control for proposed and existing ODOT facilities. 
    • Perform detailed surveys using manual and electronic survey equipment, computers and complex software.
    • Collect the terrain data necessary to produce accurate 3-dimensional topographic maps and surfaces. 
    • Provide layout staking for transportation projects. 
    • Communicate survey information both orally and in writing.
    • Using engineering or scientific calculators, complex engineering and surveying computer programs, perform engineering calculations to analyze and adjust the survey data that has been gathered in the field.
    • Submit or receive field notes and electronically collected data for processing.
    • Provide guidance, training, mentoring for new unit members and/or consultants.
     Working Conditions:
    • Work is performed primarily in an office environment (85% of the time), with long hours spent stationary.
    • This position is subject to working with occasionally upset customers and is exposed to the hazards of the traveling public. 
    • Work can be performed in rough, mountainous terrain with wildlife and all types of weather are encountered.
    • There is a possibility of travel to project sites and meetings.

    What we need:

    A valid Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license.

    NOTE: If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain comity within six months of hire.

    Special Qualifications:

    Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

    What we’d like to see:

    • Experience creating and maintaining professional and collaborative working relationships with all contacts.
    • Experience working with MicroStation and InRoads or similar.
    • An advanced understanding of fundamental surveying procedures, including any experience with transportation and/or route surveying.
    • Experience applying problem solving skills.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
