    The role:

    Do you have experience working with LiDAR scan data? Are you a team player with experience leading a survey field crew? We are recruiting for a project surveyor to join our team in Region 1. In this role, you will support our senior surveyor in directing and coordinating the activities of our survey field and mapping group.

    The goal of this recruitment is to fill this position at a professional land surveyor 1 level. However, we encourage candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for a civil engineering specialist 2 ($4,364 - $6,445 monthly) to apply, as we may consider under-filling the position until the selected candidate acquires a professional land surveyor's license. Under-filling will not exceed 24 months.

    A day in the life:

    • Develop topographic base maps and digital terrain models using computer aided drafting software.
    • Perform quality assurance/quality control processes and procedures.
    • Process and reduce field survey data.
    • Review and analyze processed data.
    • Create work products for delivery to internal and external users.
    • Provide assistance and training to field crews on proper field and equipment processes and procedures.
    • Prepare and review base maps from field-surveyed data.
    • Manage field survey equipment inventory under the direction of the senior surveyor.
    • Develop right of way base maps through research.
    • Plan, schedule and complete location, construction and right of way monumentation surveys.
    • Train coworkers in gathering data, researching and analyzing various types of survey records.

    Environment:

    • Work is performed in an office environment using CAD workstations, drafting tables and computers. Must lift and file 50 to 60 lb. archive boxes.
    • May work outdoors at project sites as needed - field work may involve exposure to hazards of traffic, construction equipment, rough terrain, stinging insects, poisonous plants, hard surfaced pavement and working in inclement weather conditions. 
    • May be required to lift and carry 20 to 50 lb. survey instruments and traffic control signs, walk on rough terrain and stoop or bend around structures or equipment, and be required to work 20 feet or more above ground/water at project sites.
    • Long hours may be required. 
    • Position involves contact with elected and local officials, various media and the public who may be emotionally involved in issues. 
    • Travel within the region and occasional travel statewide is required.

    What we need:

    A valid professional land surveyor (PLS) license.
    Note: If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain comity within six months of hire.

    Additionally, driving is an essential function of this position. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position.

    What we need for the civil engineering specialist 2 underfill option:

    A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, geomatics, surveying or transportation-related engineering and two years of civil or transportation-related engineering or surveying experience.
    OR 
    Five years of civil or transportation-related engineering or surveying experience. One year of this experience must have been independently planning and completing assignments.
    OR 
    An equivalent combination of education and experience. 


    Note: To be eligible for the civil engineering specialist 2 underfill option, a candidate must have passed all the professional land surveyor's exams Oregon and national). The candidate must have their professional land surveyor's license (the ability to stamp) within 24 months of hire.

    • Experience managing, analyzing and processing field data for completeness and accuracy and resolving issues independently.
    • Proficient in using MicroStation/InRoads, Descartes, Leica Infinity, Leica Cyclone, StarNet and Microsoft Office.
    • Experience working with LiDAR scan data.
    • Experience assisting with training staff on survey-related equipment, software and standard procedures.
